So, I came into the work this morning, open up Feedly (Yes, I still consume news via a RSS reader), and what do I see? Two articles on top saying how Sony won the next-gen console war.

Whoa, caught me by surprise. I was able to catch a bit of Microsoft’s press conference yesterday, and after seeing a couple of hardcore games that looked just awesome on Xbox One (Titanfall, the new Halo, Ryse: Son of Rome), I thought MS had it—hardcore gamers with these games, and everyone else with all that multimedia features. I determined no matter what Sony says, people’s minds will already be on Xbox One. Maybe this is why I didn’t bother look at Sony’s presser.

The PlayStation 4, while perhaps a more conventional product, appears to beat the Xbox One in just about every area that counts.

Well, it appears that I have come to a conclusion way too fast. According to The Verge, Sony’s Play Station 4, “while perhaps a more conventional product, appears to beat the Xbox One in just about every area that counts.” How? Play Station 4, when compared with Xbox One, is:

1. cheaper—$399 vs $499,

2. looks sexier (and this is important),

Microsoft Xbox One console is a box. … What is this, repainted NES?
Sony Play Station 4 design may resemble Xbox One, but is slanted, and thus, less boxier and sleeker looking!

3. more indie game friendly,

4. open and has no region lock at all, and,

5. ..well, this. (Sony’s Official PlayStation Used Game Instructional Video on YouTube. It’s a must see.)

Each on itself may not give PS4 that much of an edge. But when combined together, you can’t argue, it does provide a hell of an edge over Xbox One.

Now, let me go back and see what games PS4 has to offer :)
