Many tech and gaming enthusiasts have the opinion that the rumored PlayStation 5 will not be revealed anytime soon. However, there’s a chance that Sony is already making the necessary preparations to unveil the highly anticipated console.

Rumors suggest that the PS5 will be making its debut at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017, to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center this June.

Various leaks and rumors about the upcoming console have already been circulating online. Should they prove to be true, it looks like the successor to the PlayStation 4 will be arriving with impressive features and specifications.

As reported by TNH Online, rumors claim that the PS5 will come with support for a virtual reality (VR) headset, considering the success enjoyed by its predecessor in delivering VR experiences. Moreover, the rumored console will have two variants, each having different specifications from the other.

There are also speculations that Sony could achieve photorealistic graphics with the next-generation PlayStation gaming console.

Speaking with GamingBolt, Stardock CEO Brad Wardell suggested that the existing PlayStation 4 Pro has the technical hardware to achieve photorealism. The hardware is allegedly not the issue that’s holding back its potential, but the software.

“Well, I think we can [achieve photorealism] with the current cycle, actually,” Wardell said. “We can go full realism. I mean, can we get past uncanny valley? Probably not. But when I think photo, I think still images. And we can definitely do that! For one frame — it’s usually the animation or how the light interacts with certain materials that makes you go, ‘this isn’t quite right.’”

“You know, a lot of it comes down to the engines too,” Wardell continued.

Some expect that these software and engine issues will finally be resolved by the time the PS5 is released to make photorealism possible.

Rumors have also surfaced suggesting that Rockstar Games’ “Grand Theft Auto 6” will be one of the first games that will be launched for the PS5. Since “GTA 6” is expected to be released sometime in 2020, this means the highly-awaited Sony gaming console might hit stores sometime in 2019.
