In my opinion Hagalaz on Valhalla Mode is by far the most dangerous and hardest one to defeat, even over Odin. You will most likely die over and over again until you’re able to react to things better. This is one of the boss battles where you will not be able to rely on the strategy from normal mode.

🔸Main attacks🔸

🔹Lightning Strike🔹

▪️When Hagalaz looks psychotically towards the sky she will cause five Lightning Strikes to come down anywhere on the battlefield simultaneously as indicated by the pillar of light.

🔹Ball of Lightning🔹

▪️When Hagalaz creates a ball of light in her hands she will cause a lightning bolt to fly straight ahead of where she is looking and it can reach from one edge of the battlefield to the other. There is a small space directly in front of her which is safe and that is a short distance ahead of where she is looking.

🔸The Battle🔸

The battle this time is split into three parts. The first will be 66% where Hagalaz will split into two and 33% when she will split into three.

🔹100% Boss Health🔹

▪️The battlefield is littered with eight Lightning Rods at the edged quadrants around the battlefield. Those Lightning Rods will activate and periodically send out sparks in all directions if lightning touches them.

▪️If Hagalaz uses her Lightning Strike stay very close to her. As the first lightning bolt comes down, dodge towards her and use two light attacks. From there the second lightning bolt will come down. Dodge towards her again and use two light attacks. Continue this pattern until the Lightning Strike is over.

▪️If Hagalaz uses Ball of Lightning there are two options:

▪️If you’re very close to her dodge at her feet and use heavy attacks until she’s done her attack.

▪️If you’re far try to get her to use Ball of Lightning on a Lightning Rod. The Lightning Rod is important to winning this battle.

🔹66% Boss Health🔹

▪️At this point Hagalaz will split into two.

▪️If Hagalaz uses her Lightning Strike continue following the same attack pattern you did previously.

▪️If Hagalaz uses her Ball of Lightning make sure you aim it towards a Lightning Rod or the other Hagalaz.

▪️If you hit the other Hagalaz rush in and heavy attack until you’re forced dodge.

🔹33% Boss Health🔹

▪️At this point Hagalaz will split into three. This is where many of you will die.

▪️The strategy for fighting Hagalaz is different compared to other Jotuns as you can’t rely on the previous method because there are three to deal with. In this case you need to become more aware of your environment as they can all use Lightning Strike and Ball of Lightning at exactly the same time all the while trying to avoid the Sparks coming from the Lightning Rods.

▪️If one Hagalaz uses Lightning Strike focus on light attacks while keeping your eyes on the other two.

▪️If two Hagalaz’ used Lightning Strike avoid fighting and use the lightning to activate inactive Lightning Rods.

▪️If any of the Hagalaz’ uses Ball of Lightning be sure to align it with the closest Hagalaz because stunning them as much as possible is key to winning.

▪️The safest way to win is to constantly use light attacks while dodging Lightning Strikes. Heavy attacks only when Hagalaz isn’t launching an attack. Activating the Lightning Rods so you can stun them as much as possible.

▪️Finally having them use Ball of Lightning on one another allowing you to either use heavy attacks if safe, or light attacks.

▪️If you’re not trying for the Shun The Gods Achievement then this is where you can start using your God Powers. After stunning the closest (must be the closest), rush in using Freyja’s Speed and Thor’s Hammer. Heavy attack as much as possible hoping for another Ball of Lightning. If another Ball of Lightning is coming use Heimdall’s Shield, Freyja’s Speed and Thor’s Hammer again and continue the attack. Once that is done immediately use two Gungnir’s. You should have either won or be very close to winning. At this point continue using light attacks as much as possible, heavy attacks only when possible and activate Lightning Rods.

I love gaming especially old-school jRPGs, I love them to this day. Now I’ve come to love automating everything and placing things into databases. Super fun.
