When Pokemon GO goes live in Korea

Within a span of just two days, the Pokemon Go Korea Facebook group has grown to 1,044 members, and it’s still growing.

There have been talks and rumors about whether Pokemon Go will be even be released at all here, due to security issues with North Korea; some claim to have already found a gym at the DMZ.

No confirmation if Kim Jong Un already owns it

Meanwhile, worried Korean game companies are sweating about the competition wondering if they should just make their own version.

It’s an Ollehmon. GET IT? Apparently no one else did.

A glimpse of hope opened up in Seokcho (the most northern part of South Korea) where people claim to have caught a few. And already, bus tickets to venture there and catch some pocket monsters have been sold out for this weekend.

Still no confirmation on whether or not Dokdo has been opened.

You can expect, however, that when Pokemon Go does officially go LIVE in Korea, there will be a frenzy. In the meantime, here’s a video I made with friends at Gangnam Gamers enacting how it will affect our everyday lives in Korea.

But for now, make sure to pack your extra battery, dab on some sunscreen, choose a team and get ready to catch them all.

Any time now.
