Claris: Shooting For The Stars
I always knew that Engineering is my dream career. However, I needed to know what engineers do on a day-to- day basis before taking on engineering as my undergraduate study. On account of my internship at General Motors East Africa, I am very convinced that I want to be an engineer.
New Experiences as a Job Shadow
At GM, I got the opportunity to be a shadow.
Job shadowing is a work experience option where students learn about a job by walking through the work day as a shadow to a competent worker.
This experiential encounter is enabling me to see the behind-the- scenes of engineers at work. As a result of this, I can confidently rate engineering as one of the most interesting careers in the world.
Figures Don’t Lie
Among the many lessons I am learning, I have grasped that engineers never make assumptions. They work with numbers since we all know figures don’t lie. They also pay attention to details.
Every Girl Should Know This
I asked one of the engineers why there are few women in this line of work. His answer was precise, satisfactory and informative; every girl should know this. He said, “Both the male and female gender can comprehend the study of Engineering. It is all about your passion and what you are good at.” Since learning this, I know that nothing can stop me.
Another strange misconception about engineers which many may think is true is that they are unexciting. Engineers are very interesting, contrary to what people think.
