Welcome to the Garden of Neuro. A Space for Women.

2021 might be winding down, but things in the Garden of Neuro are winding up with a year of Calls for Submissions, Courses, and Circles developing communities and opportunities for women ready to collaborate and create.

Publishing News

A Safe and Brave Space, an anthology of poetry and art created by women of the Garden is now available on the Garden of Neuro Shop. The Shop is designed so the author or artist earns the biggest percentage of each sale, supporting our goal of creating an environment where doing what you love also earns you an income. This is the first of many books and art of all kinds we look forward to offering in the Garden of Neuro Shop.

2022 Calls for Submissions start January 1 with “Transformational Moments in Essays and Art.” What was that one moment in your life that changed everything? Not all transformational moments are traumatic or even noticeable ‘ in the moment.’ Sometimes it takes us a while to recognize when the moment everything changed actually happened, but what happened when the light bulb suddenly turned on? Share your essay or art about this moment and how it has changed you.

What’s Growing in the Garden

Ready to focus on writing your story? Lauren Salkin will lead authors ready to commit to finishing their story and publishing. Weekly meetings will focus on feedback and helping authors get through challenging scenes, making dialogue work, and everything necessary to produce work that is ready for the next steps on the way to publishing. We’re starting this Friday, December 3rd, with a write-in-style gathering to write, read, and offer feedback.

Gentleness Ambassadors published by Bingz Huang is going to start sharing 31 daily reminders of Gentleness for Dec 2021. It’ll be a collaborative effort among writers, and other solopreneurs/entrepreneurs who honor and practice gentleness in their businesses and personal lives. We hope that you’ll stay tuned for these posts, reflect and comment on the ones that intrigue and inspire you, and share them with your loved ones.

Book Clubs

In last week’s Americas time-zone friendly gathering, Susan Brearley brought 4 books to the table. She started with It’s About Damn Time by Arian Hamilton, and highly recommended it. Susan also liked Wolfpack by Abby Womack, Last Days of John Lennon by James Patterson. Once again we discussed Word Slut by Amanda Montell, a book I partially listened to with Susan during my stay in Poughkeepsie, and am in the process of reading the whole thing now.

I brought one of the Garden’s favorite books to the table, Flying Lead Change by Kelly Wendorf, again. This was our scheduled book to discuss, and quite frankly we should discuss this book more than a couple of times a year. It’s that good.

The Australia/Asia/Europe Book Club meets Fridays at 3:30 AM Eastern, 10:30 am in Helsinki. Women are welcome to bring what they’re reading to the table to share.

If you’re not sure what to read, the Garden offers curated lists on a wide range of topics from a diverse group of authors.

Kitchen Table Talks

Before the Thanksgiving holiday, we discussed Turning Points and Crossroads. This allowed us to reflect on moments that changed us, and how the differences those changes made, and continue to make in our lives. Kitchen Table Talks will be taking a hiatus in December and will return in January 2022.

Poetry

Poetry is popular! Even before putting out the call for submissions for our first anthology, a Safe and Brave Space, the poetry circle was the fastest-growing sprout. Months later, we continue to see tremendous growth in this fertile ground.

On November 30th, Lisa Tomey will host a Poetry Germination Workshop, an online gathering for poets to be inspired and supported to share their words.

And on December 1, the Garden will host Yumica Thompson to talk about her latest book More than Just Poetry.

The Garden of Neuro Institute is an incubator for women’s agency and leadership, connecting Wisdom Keepers with Wisdom Seekers. We are a passionate group of women from all over the world who have formed this space on the foundation of trust. It’s a space built on sisterhood, and every sister feels safe to share their fears, brave enough to develop their agency, and expand their power to lift each other up. In the Garden, we honor each other’s journey, and every journey is celebrated.
