Welcome to 2025

So many expectations, so much to do, and lots to focus on as we work to make the world a better place for all.

Over the holidays, changes took place. The reigns of this newsletter were handed over to me so

could move on to other projects. I am so grateful for the care she took of the space. Producing a monthly newsletter is a lot of work. And while she may not be front and center here, she is still in the background, lending her talents to other creative endeavors.

Looking forward

With so many seeds sprouting, there is much to look forward to in the Garden. And outside of the Garden too. In 2024 we began opening events to all genders and enjoyed the new company at Open Mic and Poetry Book Club Gatherings.

In 2025, we will welcome everyone to Garden events and calls for submissions.

Events & Workshops

Wordsmith’s Weekly gathers on Saturdays for 90 minutes to write to a prompt and share and receive feedback. This lively group is well-attended and provides constructive feedback on your work.

Join us for the “Write Like Stephen King” Event January-March 2025, weekly — You do not have to be a Stephen King fan! — Just a desire to write well and prolifically, and to finish at a minimum a messy first draft of your novella!

Please use this form to Pre-Register for the Write Like Stephen King workshop.

Online Writer’s Retreat

The Garden is hosting a three-day writers retreat on March 7th, 8th, and 9th. Taking place on Zoom, writers will write, receive feedback, and, by the end of the event, have publish-ready work and a place to publish in one of the 8 Garden sister publications. Register here.

The Garden’s One Mind Book Club returns in January. Our first book of the year is Building a Second Brain by Tiago Forté. Learning how to collect, store, and retrieve the information that propels us forward is a great way to begin a year.

The Poetry Book Club will now be held quarterly as an author panel and book fair. The first one will be held on March 5th. Four authors will be interviewed for The Garden Stage Podcast and be panel members at the March 5th online event.

Open Mic returns on the third Tuesday of each month beginning January 21st. Attendees can bring something to share and listen to works brought by other participants. Share from your book, your website, a previously published, or a new piece you are working on. Events are recorded and may be shared, depending on the content.

2025 Annual Appeal

Our goal this year is to provide women over 50 — who are facing age discrimination, coupled with a lack of skills — assistance in gaining skills that will allow them to compete for higher-paying positions, leading to self-sufficiency, autonomy and personal agency.

Your donation will pay for the technology needed to develop skills in social media management, marketing, digital marketing, SEO, analytics, fundraising, and more. Jobs in these areas usually pay well, come with benefits, and offer remote work options. They are perfect for women seeking to re-enter the workforce, switch careers, or advance in their current position.

One-time and recurring donations are welcomed.
