There is still snow on the mountains above Carson City, but it’s gradually melting, feeding the many creeks and streams that flow into the river. The Ash Canyon Creek is flowing pretty well right now, and I couldn’t resist a walk next to the water.

The last time I walked this trail, the waterfalls were frozen but I could still hear the water flowing under the ice.

My walk started on a paved trail above the college, until I turned onto the dirt path and started walking west, toward the Sierra Nevada Range.

We didn’t get much snow this year, so the mountains are quickly thawing out. The creek could dry up during the hottest part of the summer if there is no snow left to feed it. We got so much snow last winter that the creek never ran out of water.
