Lavandula vera is a very popular, strongly scented hardy evergreen shrub. For the best scent, edible flowers and leaves and the hardiest plants, grown Lavandula vera, the English lavender. French lavender, lavandula stoechas is a more showy plant, but is poisonous and a little more tender. Both types are available in a range of colours from a muddy white, through pink and mauve to a rich purple.
