You Will Love Hibiscus Oiseau Bleu Because…

Gazing into the deep, inky pools of hibiscus Oiseau Bleu you’ll be hypnotised by its seductive charm. Transporting you to warm, sunlit beaches and the crystal clear waters of Hawaii, this is a summer flowering showstopper your low-maintenance garden needs.

Hibiscus Oiseau Bleu has delicate, tissue paper flowers which develop straight from the stiff woody stems.

Each precious bloom is tightly furled like an umbrella to begin with. Then it plumps, swells and bursts forth triumphantly.

The stunning, deep indigo flowers with delicately painted magenta markings will add a gorgeous splash of tropical glamour to your garden.

Bees will happily flock to the open, saucer sized flowers and gather up all the precious nectar and pollen. You’ll know that you’re giving nature a helping hand when you plant a hibiscus in your garden.

It has abundant fresh, soft green leaves with beautifully wavy edges. The contrast of the zingy green and the deep blue is marvellously rich.

Hibiscus Oiseau Bleu is fully hardy. Frosts won’t bother it at all. So, despite looking luxuriously opulent when it’s flowering, it’s tougher than it looks. Which is always a huge bonus in a low maintenance garden.

This glorious hibiscus will probably start flowering in late summer and continue for several weeks, especially if you can plant it in a sheltered position.

The Nitty Gritty

Hibiscus Oiseau Bleu has truly magnificent flowers. However, if you have heavy rain and/or strong winds when the buds are developing, some may shrivel and drop off. Usually this will only be one or two.

We often have squally summer storms in England, so I sometimes lose a few flowers that way.

However, the breathtaking blooms are produced so abundantly, that you’ll still have plenty left to swoon over.

My hibiscus is happily thriving in a large container, in a sheltered sunny spot.

Nitty Gritty Score: 7/10

Overall Wow Factor

You can find hardy hibiscus in many beautiful colours. But for my money, hibiscus Oiseau Bleu is unbeatable for its elegant and restrained glamour.

Yes, the flowers are huge and showy, but the depth of the indigo and magenta markings pulls it back from being gaudy.

Imagine being able to luxuriate in some decadent tropical romance in your garden.

And the bees absolutely adore it.

Overall Showstopping Score for Hibiscus Oiseau Bleu : 8.5/10
