The funding frenzy continues!

The funding frenzy in Eastern Europe is still on as our next report brings you the latest news from the Central and Eastern European Startup scene. A few noteworthy investment rounds from Greece as well as a follow up on the development of Rimac Automobili are some of the highlights from the past couple of weeks.

  • WEBIT Festival Europe took place in Bulgaria on 25th and 26th of April, bringing over 5,000 tech heads from all over the world. Latvian biotech startup CONELUM Biotech, developing a solution for ultra-fast microbiological diagnostics & enumeration at ultra-high sensitivity level, won the 200K Euro cash prize in the festival’s pitch competition.
  • Prezi, the Hungarian presentation platform, was part of TED 2017 in Vancouver. The company’s newest project, the Prezi Next, was the main topic of discussion as CEO Peter Arvai revealed its augmented reality presentation prototype.
  • A brand new industrial robotics lab opens up in Bulgaria. The industrial venture is made in collaboration with the Technical University of Gabrovo and RobCo S.W.A.T., lead by Bulgarian tech entrepreneur Theodor Georgiev. RobCo specializes in robotic manufacturing and services automobile pioneers such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi and others.
  • Greek startup Blueground closes a funding round of 5.5 Million Euros, led by VentureFriends and Endeavor Catalyst. The startup targets the property rental market and offers consumers, such as Coca-Cola, H&M, IKEA and others, high-end accommodation of their corporate personnel.
  • Romanian company DCS Plus which provides end-to-end ITsolutions for the travel industry closed an investment round by Credo Ventures. The investment amount remains undisclosed. DCS Plus’ last investment round came from Earlybird Venture Capital in 2015.
  • Chinese Camel Group announcing a 30M Euro investment in the Croatian automobile manufacturer Rimac Automobili. Following the news of their collaboration with Aston Martin, the company founded by Mate Rimac, looks to be driving in the fast lane of the automobile industry.
  • Polish Packhelp receives a 350K Euro investment to improve its packaging service. The startup focuses in producing a low-cost option for online retailers to design and purchase boxes to ship their products after a sale.
