Get To Know StopotS: The Online Stop Game
StopotS is our online free version of the popular game known as “Scattergories” or “City, Country, River.” This popular game has many names worldwide, but its fun is unique.
The dynamics were originally meant to be played on paper, but we decided to create a special online version of this game. Now you can find thousands of players to start a match or create your own private room for playing with friends.
At the end of this article, you’ll be able to play and get the best advantages of StopotS.
Knowing the website
Enter the StopotS website by clicking here, or download the app for Android. Considering our website, I’ll give examples, but both options are pretty similar.
Once you are in, choose to play anonymously or login with a social network. I decided to go anonymously this time.
But how does StopotS work?
Categories serve as a base for the game dynamics. You can play with categories like Common Names, Animals, Objects, and so on.
A random letter will guide the round. Everyone must fill the categories with words that start with this random letter.
For example, if the turn’s letter is N, the categories must be filled such as:
Name: Nadia
Object: Notebook
Animal: Nightingale
…
The member who fills all the categories first will be able to press the “STOP!” button.
After that, all the remaining players have their actions stopped immediately.
Otherwise, everyone has their actions stopped by the automatic “STOP!,”
Players analyze all the answers and verify whether they are valid by voting. 10 points are added for each valid answer, 5 for repeated ones, and none for bad or null answers. This cycle is repeated for a defined number of rounds.
When the time to verify the answers comes, click on the answer and then on “RATE” to vote it as invalid, or just press the “RATE” button if you think it is correct. The difference will lie in red for invalid and green for valid.
All players must rate the answer, or the game won’t distribute any points!
If you find an answer offensive, click on it to make it red and click on “report!” right below it.
After each round, the game shows the round’s scoreboard and a final ranking in the last round. The winners are those who score more points.
Playing options
As you can see in the image below, you have three options for playing the game: playing directly, creating a room, or choosing an existing one.
Playing directly
If you click on the “PLAY” button, you’ll be redirected to an existing lobby. If there are no available lobbies, the game will create one for you with standard settings.
The standards settings are 12 random categories, normal time, 8 rounds, and 10 players spots.
When playing with unknown players, you may find unpleasant people. Click on their avatar to “votekick” or “ignore” that player if that happens.
A player can be kicked out of the room if they receive many “votekicks.” If you ignore a player, you won’t see any messages from them in the chat.
Creating a room
For creating a room, click on the "CREATE A ROOM" button.
The room creation lobby is divided into 3 parts. In the first section on your left, you can select the number of rounds and players, the time, and a password for your room. (See the image below)
You can customize the categories in the middle section. You have the options to add, remove, or randomize them.
Finally, you can select what letters can be randomized for the turns in the right section.
Once you’ve defined everything, click on the “CREATE ROOM” button.
Share the link with your friends, and press the “START” button when everyone’s ready. The lobby creator can kick any member out of the room, so uninvited members are easy to handle.
- The "live mode" is perfect for streaming. You can play on the original tab and stream the live mode tab. That way, your audience won't see what you are writing.
Searching for existing rooms
If you click on the "CREATED ROOMS" button, you'll be able to see all the active rooms created by users in the game. If they are not private, you can join in.
Notice that these rooms are not official, and you might find unofficial and unusual categories. They are public rooms!
You can search for a specific room or see the details if you click on it.
