I community manage The Startup Chat Facebook Group. Facebook is the easy access point for members to come through and grow, but FB Group have design limitation. And how can we create the guidelines and mechanism within FB. The other major challenge is getting eyeballs on our content. We have to optimize Newsfeed Algo otherwise, members who join and do not engage, slowly loses impressions of our content.

Currently, these are the strategies I am experimenting or hope to test:

- Recurring feedback from our engaged members have been, read more lesson learned (how to get members to share mores wins and failures), and how to keep each other accountable through a mastermind group (how to get members to show up weekly, and post their status). Every Monday and Wednesday, members comment with their biggest startup challenge this week. However, they do not return the following week to post their new challenges. We just started tagging members who shared their challenges last week, and whether this week they have accomplished it.

- One of the biggest challenge is creating that initial environment to empower folks to ask questions as oppose to submitting self-promotional content (which most members can see through as a sales message and are less reluctant to engage). At the moment, I do this by IFTTT Quora questions into my Buffer queue. Right now, it’s still in progress what’s the total impact and if this initiated other members to ask questions as well. Who is doing it well is Vincent Dignan from Traffic and Copy — he often post growth hacks (text, not article link).

- I love your tactic of seeding the right people to the right discussion. The other major challenge on FB Group is how can I funnel the right members with the knowledge and expertise to answer questions — without a backend tagging system. I am considering of building a CRM that tag members into an Excel.

- I wrote a blog post on this here Part 1 https://medium.com/garyyauchan/how-to-use-data-and-experiments-to-drive-engagement-inside-facebook-group-47c1fe1b6f2a?source=collection_home---4------1--------- and Part 2 (WIP) https://www.evernote.com/l/AQXvXooYvadMor9-W2LeraLXrcjTgv-WAmA

Please comment below. Love to get your feedback, what you think we should optimize for, and how can I build an engaged community.
