Play to Earn Economies

Unless you’ve been living under an EthRock these past 6 months, you’re probably aware of the massive explosion in blockchain gaming projects. The ground zero for this is no secret — a Pokémon-inspired NFT game called Axie Infinity. Axie was the first blockchain game to prove the concept of Play to Earn on a big scale. In a short space of time it became a phenomenal success, allowing gamers in many countries the ability to earn a decent income by battling and breeding. Axie currently has a market cap of over $8Bn, and, more importantly, generates an impressive amount of revenue compared to other cryptocurrency projects. It represents the birth of whole new economies built around blockchain games and NFT’s.

This article isn’t about specific Play to Earn crypto games like Axie, Illuvium, Splinterlands, or Star Atlas, but Gaming Guilds. In it I hope to explain why I believe guilds will be the defining force in the brave new world of Blockchain Gaming and the Metaverse.
