What is Ambrosus?

Ambrosus is a decentralized blockchain application that uses customized sensor systems and smart contracts to facilitate the autonomous and secure distribution and transportation of food and medicine across a global supply chain network.

How does Ambrosus work?

Amborsus’ sensors systems will verify and assure the quality, safety and origin of each product. The application’s smart contract will relay the recorded information to suppliers, logistics firms and vendors accordingly. For example, Ambrosus could detect whether a shipment of long-life milk from Australia to Hong Kong was maintained at the correct temperature, had the required lactose percentage, or was exposed to too much sunlight. If any of these conditions were breached, the farm in Australia, the Chinese shipping company and the supermarket in Hong Kong would all be informed.

One of the aims of Ambrosus is to build a reputation system of every company in the supply chain industry, thereby increasing transparency and product safety. This has the potential to greatly improve the distribution process and allow consumers to easily trace where an individual product is sourced from and verify it’s quality.

What is Amber (AMB)?

Amber (AMB) is the native token of the Ambrosus ecosystem and is designed to act as the digital footprint of a product. Amber will trace products throughout their supply chain, collecting and relaying information to suppliers, logistics firms and vendors. AMB will also be used to access other network services, interact with the sensor system, and to enter smart contract agreements.

Consumers of products being tracked by Ambrosus will not be required to pay to access information about the product. Amber tokens can remain attached to the food or pharmaceutical product until its expiration date, delivery date, or any point desired in the supply chain. Consumers or retailers will be able to claim AMB tokens at the purchase point of their product and then sell them back to a supplier or receive other rewards, incentivizing the purchase of Ambrosus tracked goods.

Who is the team behind Ambrosus?

  • Angel Versetti (CEO) — former consultant and project lead for emerging technology investments at the United Nations, World Resources Forum, Bloomberg, and Google.
  • Dr. Stefan Meyer (CTO) — has over 20 years of research and development experience in food analysis, ultrasound sensors, and data encryption. He also holds a PhD in Food Science from the University of Leeds and an MSc in Geosciences from the University of Lausanne.

What is MakerDAO?

MakerDAO is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), a self-governing blockchain entity consisting of smart contracts, that is currently developing the Dai stablecoin. A stablecoin is a cryptocurrency designed to keep its price pegged to a specific reference value, such as the U.S. dollar or gold price. A stablecoin automatically adjusts the supply as the market shifts, issuing new tokens when the pegged-asset’s price rises and retracting tokens when the price falls.

MakerDAO uses a two token model:

  1. Dai, the stablecoin of this platform, which is backed by collateral
  2. Maker token (MKR) to balance the value of Dai

What is the MakerDAO token (MKR)?

MakerDAO (MKR) creates a market for Dai by buying and selling the token. MKR is locked to a smart contract and is automatically sold to maintain a stable value of Dai. MKR token holders will be entitled to fees that occur from the selling of Dai to maintain stability to its pegged value (e.g. USD). MKR tokens are important for the governance model of the MakerDAO ecosystem. Holders of the MKR token will have the ability to vote on specific risk management actions.

Who is the team behind MakerDAO?

  • Rune Christensen (CEO and Founder) — serial entrepreneur that recently built and sold a successful HR company in China. He dropped out of university to start MakerDAO.
  • Andy Milenius (CTO) — former Software Engineer at Amazon Web Services and Dapp Hub. Andy holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.
