On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, 5:30–6:30 PM, Kimiko Sakuma will present “Emotional Intelligence — Key to Becoming a Great Leader” as part of the Gateway Professional Development Webinar.
Being an effective 21st century leader requires the ability to proactively integrate Emotional Intelligence into interpersonal interactions by identifying, articulating, and anticipating others’ emotional responses.
This presentation focuses on how to leverage Emotional Intelligence as a competitive advantage. We will discuss how Emotional Intelligence is a learned skill and a tool that can help break through the bamboo ceiling, myths and perceived stereotypes that may be limiting one’s ability to move up the career ladder.

Kimiko Sakuma
Kimiko Sakuma is the founder of Training Route 3 (TrainingRoute3.com), a consultancy that designs onsite and online learning engagement strategies and curriculum models for companies such as Office Depot, Airbnb, Pacific Gas and Electric, How Women Lead, and Amgen among others which directly enhances knowledge retention, efficiency, process and employee productivity.
Kimiko has almost two decades worth of industry experience applying her Instructional Design skills to corporate, private, start-up and nonprofit sectors. Her range of expertise spans from designing the learning experience for conferences across the nation for the “Minority Women Professionals Are MVP’s Conference Series” which helped to advance the professional success and equity of minority women professionals to facilitating emotional intelligence workshops for executive, undergraduate, and graduate student programs at the University of San Francisco such as the Masters of Global Entrepreneurship Management Program (MGEM), China Business Studies Initiative (CBSI), and Masters of Science in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MSEI).
Kimiko is passionate about working with organizations and programs that promote diversity and inclusion. This desire has led her to working on passion projects such as the documentary film “Mayor Ed Lee”, which chronicles, documents, and preserves the memory of the first Chinese American Mayor of San Francisco to supporting Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) such as Asians@ Airbnb to empower the Asian and Pacific Islander community with resources to enable success.
