Muffled Warfare Release Date

Hey. Justin here. We’re trying a new format where we individually write pieces for the Gattai Games publication so we can put more of our own personality into the things we write.

So.. uh.. Muffled Warfare.. that joke we published on April’s Fool? Like we said, it wasn’t a joke. (I mean it started as a joke, but it’s real, k.)

How did Muffled Warfare come to be?

Circa December 2017, after we released Stifled on PlayStation Store NA/EU, Wesley. our tech director had a moment of genius and figured a way to rework Stifled’s shader and unlock the power of UNLIMITED PULSES!!! Smashing the measly 20 pulse limit that stifled us as designers.

Our pulse limits after Wesley decided to Super Saiyan his programming powers 3 years late.

So the natural next step.. was to.. put guns in it.

PEW PEW PEW!

Truth be told, I’ve been waiting for this moment since GDC 2017 after hanging out with Gennadi, Hayden, Iain, Shawn, and Winston that one fateful night*. On that night I pitched the grand idea of making multiplayer shooter with Stifled’s graphics as a joke, in homage of my favorite FPS, CoD4: MW.

*There’s another game that spawned from that night of stupidity. We’ll get into that in a future post.

After said pitch, one of the aforementioned humans, I forgot who, named it Muffled Warfare. It stuck. And I was able to convince the team to prototype it.

Guns, Bullets, and UNLIMITED PULSES!

What did we do next? Well, whatever a good indiedev would’ve done. #Networking (ohmigerdthisishardwtfbbqwhatdidwegetoursevelsinto)

Two months and a slew of playtests later. We realized it was actually fun as hell, and that’s when the joke became reality.

So w̶e̶ ̶k̶e̶p̶t̶ ̶w̶o̶r̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶i̶t̶, Andre kept working on it and another 3 months in, we’re ready for Muffled Warfare to take the next step.

Early Access!

Muffled Warfare is our first networked multiplayer as a studio and we expect issues to pop up along the way. Issues we’d loved your help to find and input to fix and fine tune.
