As we all know, how important sustainability is in today’s world, various companies are trying to produce goods without effecting the environment and are doing their best to save our environment. Now a days, fashion companies have started signing a social contract with the society to be a good corporate citizen in the fashion industry. According to the pyramid of Unified Whole, a socially responsible firm should make profit, obey the law, be ethical to be a good corporate citizen. These are the required steps for all the fashion companies to follow sustainable methods and code of ethics. Therefore, fashion companies should continue to implement sustainable and ethical strategies to shape their sustainable future and to keep on improving their current sustainability level.

Today, many companies are trying to do green washing and try to show the world their sustainable business practices. The demand for fast fashion is increasing and in this phase fashion industries should firstly participate in ethical sourcing. Ethical sourcing occurs when companies acquire raw materials as well as their fair wage practice. In evidence, “Fashion industry is one of the largest growing sector in the world and also second largest to pollute the industry and the fashion companies are facing major ups and downs for being sustainable”. For example, it takes 2700 liters of water to make one shirt, so imagine how many shirts are being produces in a day and how much of water is being used. A company that should be discussed is H&M about.h&m.com/en/sustainability/vision and their social responses to follow various measures to be sustainable. H&M (Hennes & Mauritz) a Swedish multinational clothing brand company which is known for its fast fashion clothing in the industry. The company was founded in 1947, they try to concentrate on economic, social, and environmental sustainable methods for the present and future generation. As the fashion industry is also dependent of natural resources, the leading clothing company is trying to change their linear circle production system (making new clothes) to one that reuses old products. This process can reduce the extraction of natural resources from our planet. As the company grows in the future, they want to ensure that there are enough sources for the future while practicing their circular and renewable fashion. The company has set the following goals for a sustainable fashion future.

· By 2020, company aims to source 100% sustainable cotton.

· By 2030, they aim for 100% recycled or sustainable materials.

· By 2040, H&M aims to have a climate positive value chain.

Aims Of Fashion Brands

Apart from H&M Group, many other fashion companies are setting their future strategies for being more sustainable. www.carbontrust.com. As of for being more sustainable, fashion companies are challenging themselves by transforming their way of doing business into other ways. For example, “Fashion brands are aiming to be a 100% circular in next 5–10 years by using just recycled and sustainably sourced materials”. This quote clearly states that, fashion companies will be mostly using recycled fabrics in their future. According to me, by using such methods several companies will reduce the excessive water usage and also there will be less pollution and other harmful effects to the water bodies. Companies should also focus on reducing amount of carbon emission and for this they should set some intense target to be reached in nearby future. Also companies should look over their supply chains and make sure that they follow ethical and sustainable guidelines. I think that fashion company should take some strict actions and have courage to aim high and not fear for failure.

In conclusion, I think that recycling of products and reusing them is the best strategy a fashion company should implement. Also if the fashion companies are looking forward to have a sustainable future without loosing their lead in the fashion industry, they need to be brave and push the boundaries and should not be afraid to fail.
