It’s up to you whether you’d like to be playful, dark, conceptual and or a minimalist.

Design is sometimes seen as means to analyze purposefulness and generate functionality, and while this is true for most forms of design we cannot neglect the value of visual aesthetics. The visual aspect of design, be it a building, a chair, a poster or a smartphone application is critical to determining its appeal.

In this project your goal is to produce a photographic series with an emphasis on graphic design. There are numerous ways to do that and some are: be inspired by a visual movement like the International Swiss style or the Bauhaus, use Gestalt principles as guides where concepts like repetition and rhythm are used, or your work could be inspired by a graphic designer.

This time you can use Photoshop or illustrator to transform your photographs into designed objects. You can add shapes and text. Just keep in mind that regardless of what you do, it is photography focused.

Logistics:

Your series should have a minimum of 8 photographs that work well together. But it could be more than that and as many as you’d like.

04/21 bring examples of photographic work you like and also photographic tests of what you’d like to accomplish. You don’t have to inject design elements yet

04/28 bring printed experiments and tests to class with design elements and treatments added. Also bring digital files to class so we can dicuss questions relevant photoshop and illustrator.

05/05 final is due. Printed please!
