Google IO Extended Ilorin’22
Google IO Extended was hosted by GDG Ilorin on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Malhub 1, Ilofa Road, GRA 240101, Ilorin.
Google hosts the annual I/O (or just I/O) developer conference in Mountain View, California. At I/O, developers from all over the world assemble for talks, practical training sessions with Google experts, and a sneak preview of the company’s newest developer products.
Because I/O Extended events allow developers, designers, and business personnel from all over the world to participate in the I/O experience, Google encouraged its GDG chapters to host these events.
Google I/O 2022 Extended Ilorin drew 147 designers, developers, and business professionals.
There were 9 speakers (5 men and 4 women), and they all used their time on stage to inform the audience about Google’s newest products and the announcements made at I/O 2022.
After registration, attendees checked in, and the program started at 10:30am with a welcome speech from the host and designer Mercy Idowu.
Nnamdi Clement, the Lead Organizer at GDG Ilorin, was the first speaker of the day. He provided an icebreaker about what Google I/O was all about, as well as introduced and facilitated the keynote streaming session, which explained updates to Google products.
The second speaker, Kamaldeen Kehinde, a Community Manager at Ingressive4good and a co-organizer at GDG Ilorin, led an interactive session on Introduction to Cross-Device System Development. The audience responded positively.
Yusuf Adeyemo, a Dev-Ops Engineer, Content Creator, and Open Source Enthusiast, was the third speaker of the day and gave a hands-on demo session on Introduction to Google Cloud + Firebase. He gave an in-depth explanation of how the cloud works, and his session was packed with questions from the audience.
What is New in Android Accessibility was the subject of a recent update in mobile development shared by Monika Kumar Jethani, a Google Developer Expert from India.
Wamide Animashaun, a Strategic Partnerships at Propel, spoke about Supercharging your Growth with Propel as the fourth speaker. Attendees took notes and asked questions during her presentation.
Following that was the Tweet Challenge, which was facilitated by Idowu Mercy, our amazing host and Product Designer. She encouraged attendees to tweet about their Google I/O 2022 Extended Ilorin experience. As a result, we created the hashtag #IOExtendedIlorin22, and Aliyyah Kalejaye won the tweet challenge.
Following the break, we resumed the program by introducing our next speaker, Ibrahim Kolabalogu, a representative from Kuagi Resources, who spoke on Introduction to Google TLDR, a new product released by Google.
Monsur Hussain, a Web and RPA Developer, spoke next on the topic Explore Machine Learning with Google Crowdsource. He performed a hands-on demo, which piqued the interest of the attendees, prompting them to inquire further about Google Crowdsource.
Following that was an entertaining and interactive session on Understanding Design Principles by Ozenua Oluwatobi, a Product Designer — AR/VR Designer.
Finally, the event’s host and lead GDG Ilorin, Idowu Mercy and Nnamdi Clement, gave a closing review, thanking the audience for their attendance and enthusiastic participation.
Everyone who attended IO Extended Ilorin’22 left with a smile on their face and a bag full of the knowledge and tools they had learned.
