On the 2nd of March 2019 over 80 Developers, aspiring developers, students, entrepreneurs and none techies were present at GDG Ilorin Cloud Study Jam. it is indeed a day to remember in the history of Ilorin Tech Community.

Cloud Study Jam is large, community-run developer events that take place around the globe focusing on community-building and exposure to Google’s new technologies. The events cover product areas such as Google Cloud Platform, G Suite and lot more. Cloud Study Jam are sponsored by google and aims at creating a space for developers and IT enthusiasts to get new ideas, learn from industry experts, engage with peers, and use Google Technologies and other developer tools.

Registration started around 9:30am and the event commenced exactly 10:20am where Adeola gave a keynote speech.

Memunat Manzuma was the first speaker, A Software Developer @JDlab Nig Ltd Minna, Niger State, Public Speaker, Lead, Co-lead and member of Tech Communitie. She spoke about magnitude of GDG Community.

GDG Community is a local group for developers, designers and tech enthusiasts using Google Technologies to solve problems.

She further stated that GDG Ilorin is a GDG Chapter and can host a variety of technical activities for developers from just a few people getting together to watch our latest videos, to large gatherings with demos and tech talks, to hackathons. Memunat Manzuma explains the do’s and doesn’t of GDG as a Tech Community and also it benefits to the society.

Ahmed Olarewaju, a co-organizer of GDG Ilorin demonstrated how to get started with Qwiklabs, he explained in details with full demonstration on how to set and start a lab on qwiklabs. it was really insightful and easy get hands on with full guide from the amazing google developer.

Demystifying Cloud & GCP by Ibraheem Zulkifli

Our second speaker was Ibraheem Zulkifli, He spoke about getting started with Google cloud platform and all we need to know about cloud & GCP.

It is a cloud service where you can host your programs, web etc. Your desktop, laptop have physical and architectural limitations. You may choose to upgrade your hardware in your system but that upgrade has limitations too, sometime in the future” He then stated the advantages of using GCP. He further explain some stuff you can do on GCP and displays a demo on how to kick start with GCP from accessing qwiklab to logging to make a project to create a billing account to create a VM. Our attendees were offered refreshments at about 12:15pm. It was a 30 minutes break, the attendees were told to look around, meet new person, network, collaborate and learn.

During the 30 minutes break, all the present attendees, speakers and organizers were called upon for a group photo. participants enjoyed a delicious lunch.

GCP for none techies(G Suite) by Ahmzy

Our last speaker was Ahmzy, He spoke about G Suite, the advantages and various way to use it. It was really a great moment for our attendees as they get additional knowledge on G Suite.

And yes, we have some amazing plans for the next meetup, for the developer community in Kwara State. We are ready to do more.

Every moment worth sharing

And we call it a wrap, after taking enough selfies and group photos with speakers and organizers, the participants went home with a joyful face, more knowledge to brag about and some valuable new contacts.

Kamaldeen, the lead organizer of GDG Ilorin give his closing remarks by encouraging participants to keep up their good work and to take the advantage of the opportunity provided by Google Cloud to complete their lab excercise so as to learn more about Google Cloud Platform.
