Before Devfest begins... all happenings in September, GDG in Singapore
What’s up! GDG Singapore / GDG Cloud Singapore here! It’s been a month since the end of Google Cloud Next OnAir (sad stuff I know), but I’m happy to say that it was taken over by plenty that happened during the month of September. Not to mention, many activities happening along with DevFest in the month of October!
Let’s take a quick look at all of the good stuff that happened in the month of September!
The Future of Data Transfer — 5th September 2020
Kicking off the month of September, we have a re:Work event, titled “The Future of Data Transfer”, hosted by Julius and Weiyuan of GDG Singapore. Joining the event as the guest panelist, we have May Haim Kotlarsky, Director of Privacy at GitHub.
“Data Transfer” is a common theme of privacy concerns and regulations in today’s world. One of the core topics of this theme was on Privacy Shield declared as invalid, which is a good topic to follow especially if you’re operating in the affected regions. On a separate note, with the rise of technical regulations brought about by GDPR and CCPA, these also highlights the possibility that each country or union could potentially run its own data privacy regulations, and the onus is on the organization to meet the strictest of these regulations in order to operate legally.
Unfortunately, the live session cannot be viewed. However, if you’re eager to follow new about developments in this area, you could try out some of the recommendations by May, such as the Future of Privacy Forum, and the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Webinar #11— Highlights from Cloud Next 2020 Digital (Week 8–9) — 10th September 2020
My heart hurts to say this, but it’s been a great ride throughout the entirety of July to September, for nine weeks of Google Cloud Next content! The 11th installment of the webinar, hosted by Hairizuan and Weiyuan of GDG Cloud Singapore covers these final weeks. Several new updates were discussed, such as the newly coined MLOps, a closely related concept to DevOps but for ML applications.

Webinar #12 — A Majulah GCP Season 2 Special — 24th September 2020
Following the highs in September brought about by #MajulahGCP, GDG Cloud Singapore organized a special theme of their bi-weekly webinar. Hosted by Hairizuan and Weiyuan of GDG Cloud Singapore, they went through the regular webinar content for “Human RSS”, before touching on the details of #MajulahGCP, and held a Q&A at the end of the webinar.
