Cloud-based technology and computing have been in the game for a long time. This field has been in the rise continuously and gaining popularity in the tech world as slowly it has started replacing the traditional software services. A major reason being, it has proved to be one of the best ways to increase capacity, enhance functionality or add additional services on demand without having the need to invest in infrastructure or man-power. One thing that we can be sure of, is that this industry will continue to expand for the benefit of the business and consumers alike, with its unstoppable advances in the modern world.

So what is Cloud?
Imagine this situation. You have stored some extremely important data or file on your local computer, and you head out for the day only to realise later that you would need it again. But how to access it now? This is where Cloud comes into the picture. Had you saved it earlier on the Cloud storage, it would be possible to access it anywhere, anytime, directly from the internet. Amazing right?
As quoted by Tim O’Reilly, founder of O’Reilly Media and originator of the term “web 2.0” — “We’re entering a new world in which data may be more important than software”, Cloud is one of the best ways to make sure that the information remains handy and we need not be dependent on the systems anymore.
In simple words, a large number of remote servers with different functionalities, coming together and forming a network is known as the Cloud. Be it storing/managing data, delivering services like streaming content, or running various applications, these servers can do it all without worrying about the computer system. All you need to make sure is that it is capable of internet service.

The data is saved on a remote database and not only one, but several places so that any major device failures or manual faults can be survived. Other security measures are that it suggests users have personal backup accounts and transfer crucial data to it.

Cloudfest’19 in VIT
Developer Student Clubs VIT is known for conducting technical events for the benefit of the students and help young developers grow in their respective technical domains for a long time now. After conducting WomenTechies’19, we are back with a bang and this time the theme is even bigger! We aim to enhance and make students of today’s generation more aware and familiar with the importance of Cloud-based terminology and how it works. What better way to introduce it than to conduct an event as popular as Cloudfest in the campus itself?
This GraVITas (the college-level tech-fest of VIT), Developer Student Clubs VIT is conducting Cloudfest, on the 15th of September. It will be a 6-hour tech conference starting with keynote sessions by the speakers from well-known companies like Turbot and LBRY on stage inspiring the participants with their real-life experiences and talks. Later on, a panel discussion will be followed.
That’s not it. We have planned a hands-on session on Google Cloud Platform for all the participants as well in order to have a clear and a better understanding of the concepts. Our participants would surely go home learning something new that in some way or the other would help them in their journey of tech.
