I will start with our regulars, the Developer101 sessions! Every week we conduct introductory sessions on domains ranging from Web to Android to Cloud to whatever student wants to learn next. This month, we kicked off with a session on Bash. It helped the students have a clear understanding of Bash.

This session was conducted on 4th September 2019.

In the next week, we organised a session on “Introduction to Open Source Development”. This session helped students understand the importance of Open Source and how it could help them grow as a developer. The session was attended by 50–60 students.

This session was conducted on 11th September 2019.

This month has been an amazing one and for all of us here at DSC VIT, it was mainly because we successfully pulled off Cloudfest’19. Our team was working tirelessly for the last 40–45 days to organise an event which would be free of cost, accessible and informative.

What’s Cloudfest?

Saloni from the content team covered “Everything about Cloudfest” in a very well written blog.

We had Nikhil Raichur (Community Manager @ Google) with us on the day of the event. He took a session on “How to kickstart your journey into the cloud” and helped students understand the path of cloud in a very clear a precise way. His presence just took the event to another level.

I personally had a conversation with him on how we at DSC VIT are functioning, a bit about #30DaysOnGCP challenge and what he feels we can do better!

This month’s Developer101 session came to an end with a session on Python Desktop Applications. The session aimed to help students make accessible and purposeful Desktop Applications using Python. It was attended by 70+ students.

#Something Different!

We published a course on Udemy — “ Machine Learning: Making Computers Think by Ubaid Usmani”. It was our small contribution to make education accessible for all.

Around 5000 students have already enrolled and have benefitted from this course.

What’s next?

We are equipping ourselves to conduct DevJams'19, a 36 hour-long hackathon which aims to bring the most innovative mind from all around the country under one roof!

We are also working on conducting Ideathon’19, an event, exclusive for freshers. Ideathon aims to promote problem-solving and creative thinking amongst the fresher students.

Some of our achievements!

Our seniors have always been a motivating force behind our efforts. Thiyagaraj, the guy behind “The Cosmic Burger” was invited as a speaker at Devfest Bangalore and Devfest Cochin!

Along with him, our ex-president, Ashwini Purohit, ex-WTM Lead, Akanshi Srivastava and community lead, Samarth Nayyar were also invited as a speaker at Devfest Bangalore!

Our team member, Vikrame won the PennApps hackathon. Vikrame and his team created a system to alert authorities about real-time criminal activities. Another member of our team, Akshat won the Best Healthcare Hack award at HopHacks Fall 2019.
