Oh Gordon!

Gordon Brown must be wondering what else could possibly come to pass. He must at least be thinking that it can’t get any worse.

Rookie mistake, radio mics are a modern evil and they have been the undoing of many, notably Kate Bush who left the stage after a concert without removing her radio microphone and proceeded to criticise the audience for being unresponsive. The audience, hearing her as they got up to leave, were not impressed. Kate never did like touring.

So I’m pretty sure that Mrs Duffy was expressing a view on immigration that is held by many would-be Labour voters up and down the country and which, owing to the failure of the main parties to engage, has gone unchallenged and uncorrected, thereby allowing the BNP and UKIP to make the running with their vile and inaccurate standpoint.

I’m also pretty sure that the Prime Minister, a man under intense and constant scrutiny for both his leadership and interpersonal skills, is entitled to have a little vent in the back of his car, in private.

Tomorrow the final leadership debate will be the focus of attention and that should be to Gordon’s advantage. He needs to come out fighting.
