I am happy to tell you that a there’s a business venture I have been thinking for some time and finally decided to bring it out.

It is called AsiaUnidos.com, a platform that unites Asia with Latin America in many ways. It is an idea and mission that has been building up in me since living in Latin America and Japan. I would have many questions:

  • Why is there no stronger synergy between Asia and Latin America?
  • Why are Asian companies so scared of entering the Latin American market?
  • Why is there no united organization that coordinates Business between Asian countries and Latin American countries?
  • Why is it so hard for Asian companies (and startups) to find good employees?

These are some of the questions we address and solve using our platform in AsiaUnidos.com. We want to build an environment for people and companies to connect in various levels to venture in business and solve many problems that we have.

To do this, we applied to the 6th version of Geek Camp in Chile.

Geek Camp identifies talented global entrepreneurs and connects them with the Silicon Valley to drive momentum and accelerate growth. To date, over 1,200 companies have applied — so far 40 have been accepted. Geek Camp alumni have gone on to raise rounds from US investors, been accepted to top accelerators and have also established US-based companies.

Geek Camp explained

We are one of the 70 chosen from around 500 startup applications and today was a pre-session of the 5-day black-box bootcamp of entrepreneurship, coaching and presenting to prepare us for a final pitch for our project.

Today we were explained in detail the whole process that occurs on this info-graph.

It was very exciting and motivating to listen to the organizers and then to some of the other startup “geeks” who are each working hard on each of their projects.

Many of these 70 startups are very interesting and the people working on them are so dedicated that we are tempted to seduce them to be part of ours. ☺

One thing bothered me.

Out of the 70 startup geeks, there were only 5 women that I could count. Compared to different entrepreneur events that I attended in Japan and in Korea, this number is really low. I think I will write a whole article about this.

I am leaving here some the things that were said by the organizers of the Geek Camp 6 Pre-session.

  • Direct opinions by you and me.
  • We are “experts” in looking for people who can innovate.
  • We don’t invest in technology, we invest in people.
  • We put at your disposal the best people to assist you, here in Chile and the US.
  • We have connections in Canada, China, US, Israel, China and something in Japan for transfer of technology.
  • We are a startup as well.
  • We will help in “facturar mas rapid”
  • Take a look at this geekcamp.com/experiencia
  • We hate tours, we hate Facebook selfies at Silicon Valley. We are providing you connections to the top notch people of SV. Not to take selfies, but to make business.
  • We ONLY take good startups. And we work to maintain that level.
  • I have failed before and am now where I am, and I applaud you to be trying to do it too.
Actual meeting packed with the 70 startup geeks. Did you spot me?

Here’s a Twitter list with all the startups we could find who were selected on this Geek Camp round.
