A review of the most expected altcoins to rise in 2022 (over 70 sources)*

I can be considered one of the latecomers to the world of cryptocurrencies. In October 2021, I entered into this world towards the end of the second bull run with a few friend advices. If I had a research like this one and had the opportunity to evaluate it well, it would have been a much more fortunate start. That’s why I decided to write this article.

Coming from the world of data science and mathematics, I can say that I am good with numbers and statistics. In the world of finance and crypto, you can imagine that not every advice we hear from our entourage and the internet will yield accurate results. The concepts of law of large numbers and sampling bias in statistics can help explain this situation.

The law of large numbers says that the more you do an experiment, the closer the statistics you want to measure will be to the expected / suggested values. For example, let’s say we tossed a coin three times and it came up heads in two of them. Just by looking at these three measurements, we can’t make our logic accept that the probability of getting heads is 2/3 and the probability of getting heads is 1/3, right? We all know that a coin flip has a fifty-fifty chance. As we increase the number of our experiments and keep counting, we see that the rates of heads and tails are getting closer and closer to each other.

Sampling bias, on the other hand, can be defined as the fact that the selected samples represent only a certain part of the population when a low number of observations are made, similar to the above concept. For example, public opinion research firms should both keep the number of people surveyed high and take into account that the demographic characteristics of these selected people, such as age, education, gender, and living environment, are close to the demographic averages of the whole country. If not, their predictions will be far from the election results.

Let’s get to my work. You may have noticed that altcoin recommendations are given from many sources around the beginning of each year. Cryptocurrencies that are expected to do 10x, 100x, 1000x, and crypto trends that are expected to rise are the subject of articles and YouTube videos. Many influencers that profit from these issues have also started to appear on YouTube.

I scanned over 70 material and kept the cryptocurrencies listed in these sources in an online spreadsheet that are predicted to have the highest rise in 2022. My aim was to calculate the frequencies of each of the cryptocurrencies accumulated in this list and to show the ones with the highest frequency. I made the list in Google Sheets and the visualization in Google Data Studio. I did this work to benefit before my recent investments and wanted to share hoping to help your own cryptocurrency research. I plan to do the same analysis at the end of 2022.

Most recommended projects

In the treemap below, we see the symbols of cryptocurrencies mentioned in nine or more sources. The darker the color in blue tones, the more the mentions. For example, Ethereum (ETH) appears to be the cryptocurrency that is expected to rise the most in 2022, by finding its place in 22 different sources. GALA, which is located at the bottom right of the graph, was mentioned 9 out of 70 sources in total.

As those familiar with cryptocurrencies have noticed, the symbols in this treemap are mostly well-known projects with a high market cap. Among them, we see MANA, AXS, SAND, ENJ, GALA, and CHZ, which are the top projects in Metaverse, NFT, and play-to-earn gaming world. VRA and ATLAS game projects, which have recently started to increase in popularity, also found their place in the list.

ETH, BNB, ADA, ALGO, and VET among smart contract projects stand out in the sources; AVAX, LINK, and FTM which are top Decentralized Finance (DeFi) projects, were mentioned more as compared to other DeFi projects. We see that DOGE and SHIB projects, which are known as top meme coin, also entered the list. I see this as an indication that these projects have taken their place in the market and that trust has increased.

The others

The treemap below encapsulate the cryptocurrency projects that received less mention in the resources. Likewise, the number of mentions increases in direct proportion to the darker color. The number of occurrences in the resources for this treemap varies between four to eight. Bitcoin (BTC) catches our eye here at first glance, why didn’t the most known and most valuable (market cap) project in the crypto world enter the first table?

This is because my research is on the axis of “Cryptocurrencies that are expected to rise the most in 2022”. In other words, these graphs are not the result of a research on what are the safest crypto projects or the projects with the most returns in the long run (say 5 years).

NFT, Metaverse and game projects still make up the majority in this secondary table. I can say that the general opinion in the resources supports this. TLM, ILV, ALICE, EFI, IMX, CEEK, YGG stand out among these projects. I can say that the expectations are high for DeFi projects like AAVE, BAT; for GT, the native token of Gate.io exchange, and GRT which is focused on artificial intelligence and big data solutions.
