I’ve been I suppose what you’d call a fan of electric vehicles for a while but mostly for the reason that they’re quite cool for a software engineer such as myself with their fancy futuristic portrayal by the media.

Well, cool as in that they have a lot of interesting technology, glitzy and often animated digital dashboards, and don’t pump out smoke that gradually eliminates pedestrians in their wake of combustion.

Though they do inadvertently pose a threat to pedestrians in front of them due to their low noise, but that has been addressed with the UFO spaceship like noise they now, embarassingly, all seem to make¹ when travelling at low speed.

My faith, though, has started to waver in the light of certain realisations that aren’t addressed by the people pushing their wide scale adoption by the general populace.

Let’s go through them one by one and see if I can highlight them to you before offering some ideas as to how we can all get out of this with the minimum of pain, suffering, and cost.
