Conan The Barbarian, Made on Midjourney

I was a student at The School Of Visual Arts during the time of the graphic novel renaissance of the late 80's.

Frank Miller’s popular Dark Knight Returns comic series was just released and everybody was passing around the latest French underground sci-fi comics. Spiegelman’s Maus and Marvel’s new Watchmen inspired new forms of storytelling.

Fantasy illustration has always had a rich history, re-popularized in the U.S. by Heavy Metal magazine in the late 70’s. But none more prestigious than the cover art for Conan The Barbarian, reserved only for the best of fantasy illustrators such as Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, and John Buscema.
