“Yet in a turbulent world, there’s another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn.” Adam M. Grant

Rethinking is hard

It’s difficult for developers to rethink their technical skills, knowledge and approach because this is responsible for their career success so far.

The technical skills that were responsible for a past success, will be the same skills that stop developers embracing new technical changes.

When technical environment evolves it requires developers to rethink their ideas and update their skills to match the new environment.

The skills, knowledge and experience which made developers successful before might not work or be needed in the future. Developers must continuously update their skills or become extinct.

New ideas

Facts don’t persuade people because you cannot tell someone to change their beliefs. They have to change their own mind.
