As a Cloud Security professional, you will undoubtedly come across projects and discussions about protecting development environments. This can entail anything from lines of code up to coding tools, code repositories — right up until the code is instantiated and is finally running, or as we call it in the information security world, “runtime”.

For anyone in IT that is not a developer, catching up with developers tool names and the lingo can be hard.

Let’s have a look at some of the most common Development concepts and tools, this is aimed at IT/InfoSec professionals.

The term DevOps defines most development teams’ work nowadays.

According to Wikipedia:

“DevOps is a set of practices that combines software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops). It aims to shorten the systems development life cycle and provide continuous delivery with high software quality.”

And Microsoft has stated that:

“DevOps enables formerly siloed roles — development, IT operations, quality engineering, and security — to coordinate and collaborate to produce better, more reliable products. By adopting a DevOps culture along with DevOps practices…
