Use cases of augmented reality(AR):

Let's talk about the top 5 use cases of Augmented reality in today’s world.

1. Google maps:

Google maps are the first location-based Augmented reality(AR) app.

You can see through the Google maps app and see digital directions on top of the real world.

You get to know the right direction, you can even point your google maps app in one direction and see all digital reviews of restaurants augmented in the real world.

If you mark a destination in google and use its AR feature then it also lets you see the track and eventually show a digital mark augmented in real-world where you mark destination on the google maps app.

2. Snapchat filter:

Snapchat's filter is another best example of Augmented reality.

It analyzes the distance of the target image and uses facial recognition to recognize the target.

Then it project virtual images over the target, but it didn’t act like a projector, projection can only be noticed by the person who is taking a selfie or who is looking in the phone.

3. Pokemon GO:

Pokemon go

Pokemon GO is one of the most popular games in history. It is the most searched term on Google for a very long time.

It uses augmented reality(AR) technology, It projects digital images of pokemon on streets, homes, gardens, etc., or at any place in the real world and you can catch those pokemon, which was the most interesting part.

You run behind them and click on the Pokeball icon to catch them, and augmented reality again projects a Pokeball to catch them.

Pokemon GO game was one of the biggest innovations in the augmented reality(AR) world.

4. Ikea app:

Ikea app is another interesting application of augmented reality.

It allows users to fit digital projections of furniture in their room, the main motive for the Ikea app was to let people check how any furniture will look inside their room.

A virtual image of furniture is projected in the room and the user can see or check if it fits his/her room through his/her mobile phone or AR glasses.

Ikea app was really liked by people and it really utilizes the potential of AR technology in an innovative way.

5. Lenskart:

lenskart, let user experience trying every frame using 3D augmented reality projections.

This technology just works like Snapchat, it first recognizes the target using facial recognition, then checks its distance then projects different frames on the target’s face.

This is another innovative way like the IKEA app to use augmented reality in retail.

6. Nueyes

So nueyes is a veteran-owned smart glass technology company based in Orange County, California that was launched in January 2016 to assist those with eye conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinitis pigmentosa. Over the past 5 years, the company has seen extensive sales growth and has expanded its product offerings into the enterprise, gaming, and entertainment space.

NuEyes uses special AR glasses to help people with visual impairment. Using AR glasses, people can accomplish day-to-day computer work, traveling within airports, Ubers, and other cities.

Conclusion and how to learn Augmented reality:

So augmented reality is really a developing technology. It can be really helpful and can prove to solve many problems that we are facing.

My thought as an explorer is that Augmented reality can be one of the greatest assets anyone can have if he/she is interested in innovation or entrepreneurship.

That’s why I learned this technology and now I am excited to teach it too. I know I’m not a big figure in AR yet but Join my learning journey and think of me as your co-learner, we will learn together and master this skill. I am a great learner and a great teacher too. Let’s make a community and grow together.

On medium and on geek culture I will keep sharing new discoveries about AR and more interesting articles related to it.

That’s why I decided to write my own blog series to learn AR and master just by giving 1–2 hours a day.

Here is the link for my series(already upload one blog): https://nerdsculture.com/category/augmented-reality/ar-development/

I will go step-by-step, help you learn unity(enough to make AR), vuforia and ARfoundation(AR packages), and some other tools like OpenCV, manomotion, and leapmotion.

These all are related to AR development, also help you to make real-world projects.

Let’s make a community of entrepreneurs, innovators, explorers, and developers.

I will end my article with this and hope you all the best.
