How Rivian Stands Out in the EV Race
Rivian is carving out its own niche with its electric vehicle lineup
Rivian has taken a different path than auto manufacturers such as General Motors, Volkswagen, and Ford when it comes to electric vehicles. Instead of going after middle-class car buyers, Rivian is carving out its own niche.
Rivian announced a deal with Amazon last year to equip the goods provider with 100,000 delivery vans by 2030. Amazon invested $700 million to help get the job done.
Soon, Rivian will release an eCamper for heavy travelers.
The company’s all-electric camper truck is called the R1T and will have 300 miles of range. Rivian will release a model in early 2022 with over 400 miles of range.
What turns the R1T from a normal pickup truck into a camper is its rooftop tent that can sleep up to three people. It also has a pull-out kitchen with two burners and an electric battery to heat food. It also has a sink connected to a 15-liter water tank for hand and dishwashing.
The kitchen will also have storage and come stocked with 30 pieces of kitchenware. The tent and kitchen put the R1T at a $68,000 price tag after including EV federal tax credit.
