Table of Contents

Introduction

By now, you should be aware that the Medium platform does not allow writers to automatically generate a dynamic hyperlinked table of contents. This is an issue because writers frequently use sections to organize their stories, and what we see, more often than not, are static tables of content that are just lists of text.

A dynamic table of contents significantly improves the user experience for readers, making it easier for them to scroll to sections that interest them the most. I grew increasingly frustrated with the manual navigation of Medium articles lately and decided to use my understanding of HTML (from recent web-scraping projects) to devise a shortcut for my own posts.
