Every 6 minutes, a car is stolen. And in 2019, over $6 billion was lost due to vehicle theft in the United States alone.

Vehicle theft is clearly a problem we need to put attention towards because the next stolen car could be yours.

However, with the current advancements of technology, the rate of theft is drastically decreasing.

But it is not enough.

We need use a system that is more effective and efficient than the ones we currently have.

And luckily, that system exists:

It’s called OpenCV.

What’s OpenCV?

In simple terms, OpenCV is the largest library for computer vision (CV), consisting of over 2500 algorithms!

It was released in 2000 by Intel and focuses on object detection — detecting objects, faces, handwriting, or in our case, license plates! It also plays an important role in YOLO — a real time object detection system.

Computer Vision (CV)

When we work with AI, we work to teach machines to develop the same learning processes as us. That is also applied with CV.
