The First Steps in Decentraland
What you can do and how to begin making a profit
Decentraland is the first virtual reality ever created to make you, the player, the owner of certain parts in it, such as land and the things you build on the land you own. In other words, this online game is a virtual world shared by its users. If you haven’t tried Decentraland I personally recommend it as a gamer and blockchain enthusiast, because the game is built on the Ethereum blockchain and is entirely crypto-based.
Requirements to Play
You need a computer with at least a quad-core processor, at least 4 GB of memory, and a good video card, plus the browser Chrome or Firefox and the Metamask wallet extension.
The Game’s Currencies
LAND
The game’s real estate lots, which constitute the crypto asset LAND, are among the non-fungible tokens (NFT) part of the game. You can buy land lots in the game Using MANA and build whatever you afford on them. In time, once more players join the game and the economy in the game develops, the value of this land may increase, just like with real estate that you buy in real life. You can have your own games, stores, or whatever you want to build on the land.
MANA
There is a transactional coin called MANA, used to buy things in the online world. It can be used to buy everything that you want in the game, including land lots, wearables, and collectibles. You can get MANA from Uniswap exchange, by converting from other currencies.
Log in And Gameplay
One of the things I like about Decentraland is that you don’t need to install anything, except the MetaMask wallet, which is an extension for the browser. Once you have installed MetaMask, you will log in with your wallet account and enter the world of Decentraland, where you can explore the areas, chat, make friends, mine, do quests and play various mini-games.
Claiming your name
You can claim a name with just 100 MANA, otherwise, your name will not be unique. Once you have the name, you can also sell it, because you will be the only one with that name and others would have to give you money later to obtain it. Some players already claimed names belonging to real-world celebrities.
Exploring by teleporting to different areas
Press C on the keyboard if you want to know how to navigate in the world of Decentraland. You also have options on your bottom bar, such as buttons for quests, for building, and for teleporting in different areas, in order to explore the big world of Decentraland. You can either walk or use the “Jump In” buttons.
Completing quests to get NFT’s
The first quest I completed was a steampunk-themed quest with Anna, a woman who required me to find all 5 mechanisms for her machine. The gears are spread all across her house and yard. I gained an NFT just by doing this quest. It may not be worth anything at the moment, but who knows in the future what its value may be. There are many other quests to try.
Playing games, attending events, and buying land
You can play the games already available in various areas of Decentraland, or you can buy land with MANA and create your own games, shops, museums, etc. Games can also give you NFT’s such as wearables. You can also attend live events.
Decentraland is a big world in which you can have a lot of fun. The time spent here may someday make you money. You just have to collect NFT’s. You can also invest in this virtual world for buying land and starting your own in-game business. If you are an artist, you can create a museum. There are many things to do. Once you get immersed in this world, it can be really addictive.
