After watching a Youtuber struggle to place screens side-by-side, I thought it might be a good idea to learn more about the Windows Key. I was already aware that one could use the Windows key + Left Arrow or Right Arrow to snap the current window to the left or right side of the screen. The Windows key, also known as the “Win key,” is a key on your keyboard that is used to access the Start menu and various other features of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Here are a few things that you can do with the Windows key:

  • Pressing the Windows key alone will open the Start menu. You can then type the name of a program, file, or setting to search for it, or click on an app or setting to open it.
  • Pressing the Windows key + E will open Windows Explorer, which is a program that allows you to browse and manage the files and folders on your computer.
  • Pressing the Windows key + D will show or hide the desktop. This is a handy way to quickly access the desktop or hide all open windows and return to the Start screen.
