What do you feel when you look up at the sky on a clear night and see an infinite number of stars that shine like the brightest of diamonds?

Despite being breath-taking, this view is just of our closest neighbourhood. Far beyond the reach of our best optical systems lie thousands of other galaxies, stars, and planets. There are as many galaxies in the universe as stars in our own Milky way galaxy.

You might be wondering where I’m going with all this. Easy. With all the greatness of planets, stars, and galaxies out there, where are all the alien space ships? Are we really alone in the universe? Shouldn’t there be other intelligent civilizations out there? The questions and answers that arise from all of this are called Fermi’s Paradox.

Let’s see why it is so strange that we have had no previous contact with other intelligent civilizations, and what could be the most likely reasons.

The Numbers of the Fermi Paradox

Before we get into the reasons, let’s check out the numbers that back up the existence of other intelligent species.
