How to write theatre and film scripts using AI (OpenAI ChatGPT)

I always wanted to write a film script for an epic fantasy movie that features a hero, a princess, and great battle scenes. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to start nor know what a film script even looks like.

So, I recently (December 9, 2022) came across a news article where DeepMind (Alphabet’s AI Research Company. Alphabet also owns Google) released ‘Dramatron’ AI system (https://deepmind.github.io/dramatron/), which can interactively co-create new stories complete with a title, characters, location descriptions, and dialogue.

So, I decided to try DeepMind’s Dramatron, which uses OpenAI’s large language model (LLM or OpenAI GPT 3.5.0), the same LLM used by OpenAI’s chatGPT (https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt/) and found it to be really buggy and not satisfactory in general. What I did find was, it provided the structure of a film script and steps to generate a film script using AI. The structure is as follows:

You supply the log line, which is a brief summary of a film (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Log_line).

DeepMind’s Dramatron generates the following based on the supplied log line:

  • Title
  • Characters
  • Scenes
  • Settings, which correspond to scenes
  • Dialogue for each scene
