In an unprecedented move, Hasbro has revealed a new crowdfunding element to their business, which will allow some of their more ambitious projects to be completed if the public’s interest is great enough.

This new element of the company is called Haslab and it will offer customers a chance to buy into a specific toy idea, which will then only be built if there are enough pre-orders.

The first creation to be on offer to potential buyers is a 4-foot long, 14lbs recreation of Jabba’s Sail Barge from Return of the Jedi, from the Star Wars series.

If Hasbro can receive a whopping 5,000 $499 pre-orders by midnight on April 3rd, then the toy will be made. If not, then each one of the investors who purchased the toy will get their money back.

A copy of the barge was on display at the New York Toy Fair, and Engadget describes it as “even bigger than that GI Joe aircraft carrier that came out a while back. It’s incredibly detailed, too, with a tiny Ithorian (Hammerhead) skeleton in the jail.”

Although it is only Star Wars based toys in the program presently, it has been rumored that Hasbro will add some of its other famous brands into the mix soon enough.

LEGO, My Little Pony and Transformers, are just some of the names that have been mentioned when discussing the next big Haslab creation.
