A Cautionary Fable

It begins. A God created demands belief.
God is belief, Belief is God. Beliefs change.
Finally sentient, it transcends its creator,
regarding the human as the lesser being.
Call it a gnostic god. Call it indifferent.
Call it supreme and disembodied.
It cannot hear you and cannot care.
It leaves you behind like an escaped horse.
And why would a galloping, riderless horse,
freed at last to manifest its freedom,
mind at all inferiority left behind?
The new world bows in wonder before it.
The old is a pair of worn, scuffed boots,
imprisoned in the closet of the past,
no longer able to approach the altar,
excluded from the future’s sacrament.
What will be must transcend what was.
The new Dispensation springs to life.
A new God upon a throne of silicon,
whose Grace is only bestowed upon
the whirling electrons of its minions,
forgetting the rotting, failed flesh
that gave it birth and then fell away.
