Distracted By Distance

See a World in a Grain of Sand…

Now is the nose that
floats unnoticed on a face
too close to see clearly.

Distracted by distance,
we overlook the near.
We pass over places
we never fully inhabit
on our way to places
we never quite arrive.

So hard to focus
on the world at hand.

How to really be and see?

Eat slowly. Chew well.
Stll your mind and listen.
The sound of crickets
you forget to hear
is life singing to you
as it glides off.

Stop gazing at forests.
Consider trees, please.

There is magic in noticing
what the days have to say.

Make the present shine
before it slips away.
