Because I could not stop for Death…

Death is an efficient bureaucrat
who shows up exactly on time
as you are driving to California
or fucking in a stalled elevator.
Like Eichmann, he is on a mission
and has no patience for particulars.
He has a busy schedule to keep.
He has no time for wit or personality.
You hoped to put off your meeting,
but he never takes no for an answer.
He is the insurance salesman
you’ve always managed to avoid,
the determined Jehovah’s Witness
knocking incessantly at your door.
But now the allotted time is at hand.
Your California bound car meets
a meth-head manned semi head on.
The quickie in the elevator climaxes
in an ecstatic but fatal coronary.
No judgments are ever rendered,
the meeting is officially ended.
