Hopeless Archaic Invocation

Sing Muse…

In the Iliad
the gods speak,
man acts,
problems solved.

In the Odyssey,
the gods are silent,
man prevaricates,
problems compound.

Readers, characters,
even the author,
are lost in lies,
maybes and perhaps.

The Pivot wobbles;
nothing as it seems.

Fog covers all.
Wall or whirlpool.

Wiles and cunning
prevail.
History clouded
by tears.

And so we are now.

Athena and Apollo mute,
we are condemned,
sailing uncertainty,
forever caught
between dangerous,
personal rocks.

Everything up for grabs.

Trying to untie the knot
of whom we really are.

Return, holy voices,
send a sign of light
purge this endless night,
send a thunderbolt of life,
end this realm of strife.

Make the world, again, clear.
Deliver us, again, from our fear.

Sing Muse…
