I Love Mexicans, the backstory
Spent three boring hours at the Grant County Gem and Mineral Show in Silver City, NM, Sunday, a two hour drive from our house in Garfield. Stella had to buy some rocks and minerals for her 6th grade science labs. Took only 45 minutes to cruise through the four large vendor rooms. Very pretty. Can I sit down now?
Stella spent all my money so we head to Wrangler’s Bar and Grill down the street.
The table we sat at had a freaking TV! (I say freaking TV because I haven’t watched TV since 1973. I couldn’t tear my eyes away.) I quaff a tall draft of Stella Artois cause there’s no better way to honor your honey than to drink a beer with the same name. She drinks Chardonnay. And I’m watching this movie and making up stupid dialogue and scenarious cause there’s no sound and I’m feeling happy.
Don’t leave! I’m just getting to the good part, but first I had to paint the picture.
So I ordered the taco salad. Then I stare at the television. Fixated. I make up the story. A cheating woman. A distraught man. Only when I got home and Googled around did I understand it was the highly fictionalized story of Hank Garland.
Combing through the internet the only thing I found that was in the movie was a car wreck followed by electro-convulsive shock therapy (ECT). The rest appeared to be fiction. Lots of man-woman conflict. Some man-man conflict. But everything seemed overdone.
If you want to see the film I saw, but with sound, here it is. It’s probably ibetter with sound. But, personally, I’d rather watch the real thing.
