Weird scenes inside the goldmine…

Last month I first participated in the Medium Partner Program (MPP). I had hoped by now, having received the first result, I would be able to draw some reasonable conclusions about it. I can’t.

Either I am just dense or I don’t have enough data. Probably dense. Perhaps you can help me out.

For a ten day period, I posted five new locked poems and locked one old poem. I received $350 for all six. (Unlike many, I’m not bashful about money.)

But, I don’t understand how.

Of the five newly posted poems, the one with the fewest claps received the most money, $50. The one with the most claps received $2.91. Even weirder, the old poem that I locked, which, as far as I can tell got no new claps, received $100.

If there is a pattern here I can’t see it.

I’m happy to have the money, but I’d be happier if I knew how what I got was determined.

Other interesting things happened as well.

My PayPal donations dropped off to nothing, perhaps because readers think I’m getting rich off the MPP and don’t need them anymore.

My new Fan accrual, which had been proceeding at the absurd rate of about 50 per day, dropped off to three or four a day. Maybe the bots have gone on vacation?

My views and reads also dropped by about 50%. Could be the poems I posted just weren’t that good, but it’s a large decrease and happened just as I entered the MPP. A connection?

One thing that didn’t change was that my readership seems to be consistently the same 100 or so Fans. I wonder what the other 10,700 are up to?

Perhaps at the end of this month, with a full month of data to look at, This will all become clear.

I’d like to hear how others have fared with the MPP. I’d especially like to hear any theories on how the payouts are actually determined.

Feel free to respond here or email me at bookgardener@gmail.com.

Thanks
