A whole life
struggling up
this mountain

Many places.
Same mountain.

Every morning
the slope looms.

The way leads
always up.

No rest.
No respite.

Each day the
climb continues.

One step,
then another,
always upward,
never easy,
slogging on.

Nearly seventy,
my end is
in sight.

No matter.
The mountain
goes on forever.

Other pilgrims
will seek the peak
as I have done
and discover
only themselves,

which is all that is,
not less than everything.
