Pain Killing

Without beauty,
who could bear
the world’s pain?

We are caught up in
the mundane dramas
of our own agonies,
seeking to escape them,
finding but temporary,
fleeting cures at best.

Poetry, Art, and Music
wrench us away
from personal pain
towards life’s
exquisite verities.

Finally, our suffering
is numbed and fades,
replaced by something
ineffably more.
