Some Enchanted Evening

A world awakes.
Sun swarms sky.
Trees loom grey.
Hours wax warmer.
Years still chill.
Cassowaries lurk
in hallways
afraid to pounce.
A tuba plays Bach.
A kazoo hums Mozart.
Money casts a
shadow of illusion,
swallowing true love.
Sex sings silently.
Drunken cats
bark and fetch.
Laughter fills
despairing eyes.
A clock chimes,
too late.
It is all so far
away and near.
Without fear,
a man shines
his shoes before
his final date.
A dinner, a movie
seduction by fate.
Unlikely dream.
Impotent scheme.
Hot within
his head,
the old fool
can’t wait.
