THE AQUARIUM

While in the aquarium his tears disappear

As he sinks deeper, he loses his fear

While submerged, unaware that he’s trapped

He needs to float here, because he hopes to adapt

Submerged in this liquid, never quenching his thirst

His only excuse, he’s not the first

He swims in schools, “There’s safety in numbers.”

Ask him why he’ll never remember

He prefers to float rather than feel

“I’ll quit when I’m 40, I remember our deal”

Hear muted versions, which resemble the truth

Did you say four parts vodka with a splash of vermouth??

As he sinks deeper we pray he will heal
